Board Registration Scheme

What is the Production Board Registration Scheme?

The Raceboard, Funboard, Youth Funboard and Formula Windsurfing Classes are recognised by World Sailing as International Classes and require boards to be included in the World Sailing Approved Lists to be eligible for racing at Events.

Who operates the Production Board Registration Scheme?

The scheme is operated by the Technical Department of World Sailing.

Who can register equipment?

Models can be registered by brands or manufacturers that complies with the requirements set by World Sailing.

What is the cost of equipment registration?

• £300.00 British Pounds for every Formula Board.
• £600.00 British Pounds for every Race Board.
• £50.00 British Pounds for every Funboard Board.

How long does it take to register equipment?

Up to three months after submitting the required documentation.

Does the registration expire?

Registrations have no expiry date. Once a model is registered it is eligible to race in the Class indefinitely as long as it continues to be built in accordance with the approved specification.

How Does a Brand register with the system?

If a brand wishes to register boards within the World sailing Equipment registration system, they can either email the technical team – technical@sailing.org for full instructions, or register as a brand using the form above.

What is the minimum number of boards that need to be produced?

A World Sailing Approved Series Production board is a mass-produced board made in a production run of not less than:

• 50 Slalom, Wave or Freestyle units per model
• 25 Race boards or Formula units per model

When do I need to register my model?

Manufacturers are not authorised to use the World Sailing logo if not previously approved by World Sailing.

The brand/manufacturer is recommended to contact World Sailing as soon as the board manufacturer is ready to start production.

The World Sailing Technical Department will provide the correct guidance and make sure that the board is suitable to be used at Raceboard or Formula or Funboard events.

If the technical specification, such as the outline, graphic design and layup of the board are communicated at a later stage and do not comply with Class Rules and/or World Sailing requirements, the model might not be considered suitable for racing.

What is the registration process and documentation required?

Application must be submitted via an online form – to register with the system, contact technical@sailing.org

As soon as the board manufacturer is ready to start production, the brand/manufacturer will be asked to complete and provide the following:

Registration Form Part I – including the following files:

• Graphic Design – highlighting the World Sailing Approved Series Production Logo,
• Outline – highlighting the dimensions as described in Form Ib,
• Layup – highlighting the deck and underside skin and core materials and Internal structures.

Payment – The fees vary depending on which list the model is to be registered

payment is issued after submission of Form Part I

Within three months of payment,  the manufacturer will need to confirm that 10 boards have been built; the confirmation shall include:

Registration Form Part II – Submitted via Form Part II and to include the following:

• Any amendment to the specification reported in the Form Part I
• A declaration that at least 10 boards have been produced
• Factory details and address, in case of World Sailing Inspection

Links to registration forms will be emailed to manufacturers once they are setup within the system.

Once registration is complete, World Sailing will enter the board on the relevant list of World Sailing Approved Series Production Boards only once the procedure has been completed and all invoices and costs, if relevant, settled.

When are the registration deadlines?

Funboard

The deadline for the completion of the registration process is 60 days prior to the start of a World Championship and 30 days prior to the start of a Continental Championship.

Formula Board

The deadline for the completion of the registration process is 60 days prior to the start of a World Championship. There are no restrictions for Continental Championship.

Raceboard

The deadline for the completion of the registration process is 30 September before the year of competition.

Which logo do I need to use in my new model?

All boards produced shall be supplied marked with the approved World Sailing logo provided by the Technical Department of World Sailing.

What happens if the technical specification of registered equipment is changed?

If any changes in the building specification are made to a registered board, World Sailing must be notified immediately. The changes may make the board liable for re-registration or a new registration.

What are the technical limitations on boards to be registered in the Formula/Raceboard/Funboard lists, hence to be eligible for racing?

Boards of the same model shall be built in accordance with the specifications included in the submission forms and the final weight value shall be within tolerance of 5% of the nominal weight. After a model is registered, its length, width, weight and volume are reported in the approved lists published by World Sailing.
