Young Sailors complete coaches course in Dominican Republic

During the 18th - 24th May 2017, the ION Club in Caberete, Dominican Republic was active with keen individuals from a sailing background who all participated in the World Sailing Level 1 Technical Course for Coaches (TCC).

During the 18th – 24th May 2017, the ION Club in Caberete, Dominican Republic was active with keen individuals from a sailing background who all participated in the World Sailing Level 1 Technical Course for Coaches (TCC).

A total of 29 attendances gathered in the ION Club, including the World Sailing Regional Development Coordinators Eduardo Sylvestre and Tim Cross, who were assisted by expert coaches from the host country.
 
Over the five-day course they covered both dinghy and board specific topics both on and off the water, using a variety of kite, windsurf and dinghy equipment.   
 
The Regional Coordinator for Sailing Development in Latin America for World Sailing, Eduardo Sylvestre, commented on the course, saying, “The TCC1 in Dominican Republic was great. We had 28 enthusiastic coaches, including five windsurf and six kitesurf coaches.
 
“A full week of lots of practice and theory with an average of 15kts of wind. It´s great to see a country fired to learn and spread sailing as a way of life.”
 
Carlos Jose Adames Pérez from Escuela Cabarete ION Club was also an attendee and he summed the course up by saying, “This was a very productive course, with relevant content on each area within the sport.”
 
“We learnt how to communicate in an easy and flexible way with the sailors, whilst creating a safe fun environment for learning. This course was very effective, for my professional and personal life.”
 
Wison Baez from Carib Wind club shares his experience, “The clinic was very important, I learned how to do an effective briefing and debriefing, I also learned about safety and discipline and how to be a responsible and safe instructor”
 
Head of Coach Development of Federacion Dominicana de Vela, Maykel Orero Rojas, praises the purpose of the TCC by saying, “I would like to thank World Sailing for teaching something very important, teaching how to teach with values, culture related to sailing. It was very important for our young coaches to receive this knowledge.”
