Thursday - Sailing World Cup Hyeres - How to Follow - Day 2

Day two begins at the Sailing World Cup Hyères looking to play catch up on the schedule after the gusty conditions of the first day.

Day two begins at the Sailing World Cup Hyères looking to play catch up on the schedule after the gusty conditions of the first day.

With a forecasted early morning wind of 8-11 knots north-westerley, a quick peek out the window will tell you it hasn’t quite hit those heights at present as the flags slowly flutter in a light breeze.

That 8-11 knots will drop off to around 5 knots, flicking to a WSW around midday before it picks back up and hits 14-17 knots in the early afternoon.

The sunshine of previous days is hidden by cloud cover and the French Riviera sea is calm to smooth. All in all, the signs point to a less frantic day on the water for all.

The usual suspects are at the top of the men’s 470 and 49er as Australia’s Mat Belcher and Will Ryan and New Zealand’s Peter Burling and Blair Tuke lead their respective fields. Both handled the tricky conditions well and poised for another successful regatta.

The Nacra17 class had a tough day out on the water with capsizes aplenty mixing up the leaderboard positions. Pre event favourites France’s Billy Besson and Marie Riou are in eighth, but as only one of the 14 that actually finished, they may just take that.

The Paralympic sailors had a quick one race and back onshore yesterday, so will be hoping for a bit more time on the water, while the awaiting 49erFX sailors will be looking to leave the shore and get their regatta started.

The schedule for Thursday 28 April is:

Women’s RSX Alpha 3 13:30
