The Ed Baird-skippered Synergy Russian Sailing Team today secured the RC44's 2012 match racing series in Rovinj, Croatia. Leaders at the start of the day, the Russian team came perilously close to see the title slip through their fingers when they lost two of their first three races. This allowed the second and third placed boats, Aleph Racing Team and Team Aqua, the opportunity to draw level with the leaders. But surprisingly neither Aleph nor Team Aqua managed to win their vital flight six matches that would have enabled them to draw level with the Russians. Synergy went on to dispatch the Italian team on AFX Capital Racing, secure themselves the 2012 match racing title by two points.
