Parasailing Onshore

About Para Inclusive Sailing

Sailing is one of the very few sports in which able-bodied sailors and disabled sailors can participate on equal terms; the Para World Sailing Committee is responsible for sailing for people with disabilities worldwide.

About Para Sailing

Sailing takes many forms; you can cruise, race or potter around in all kinds of boats, on the sea or inland water. It is one of the very few sports where non-disabled sailors and disabled sailors can participate equally. The Para Sailing Committee is responsible for sailing for people with disabilities worldwide. The committee is responsible for the Paralympic Sailing Programme, including Events and Equipment selection. In addition, it promotes, assesses and supports programmes for disabled sailing run by their Member National Authorities (MNAs).

The committee promotes all types of sailing for people with all types and degrees of disability. The values of the committee are equity, opportunity to excel and empowerment for sailors with disabilities.

Para Inclusive Strategy 2024-29

Over the past five years, the number of nations with sailors participating in international Para sailing competitions has increased by 30%. Significant progress has also been made in developing resources and creating regional development hubs through the Inclusive Development Program.

In the next five years, World Sailing will:

  • Sustain its worldwide reach of well over the 32 countries across three IPC regions required for inclusion in the Paralympic Games;
  • Create a comprehensive quadrennial competition calendar of Para Inclusive events;
  • Deliver Para Inclusive disciplines as part of the World Sailing Championships in Valencia in 2026 and Gdynia in 2027.
  • Maintain alignment with the IPC Athlete Classification Code while continuing to innovate;
  • Ensure the highest standards of governance including a robust anti-doping program that encompasses education as well as athlete testing.

Para Inclusive Sailing Manual

The Para Inclusive Sailing Manual has been established in conjunction with US Sailing, a leader in adaptive sailing, focused on providing unrestricted access to the water and experiential parasailing.

The goal of the manual is to provide resources and suggestions for organisations looking to develop an adaptive sailing program or expand an existing one.
