Resources for MNAs, Class Associations and Sailing Clubs
World Sailing’s Guide to sustainable sailing clubs can help clubs transition to low carbon and emissions operations. The Sustainable yacht club self assessment tool can help to evaluate how sustainable your sailing club is and possible areas for improvement. Additionally this energy audit checklist can be utilised by clubs to audit their energy usage, either for the whole season or for certain events.
The Green Guide for Clubs has been developed by the RYA and the Blue Green which covers a range of topics to help make your sailing club more sustainable such as waste management, energy efficiency and pollution control.
The Toolbox by 11th Hour Racing is a great tool to help develop your sustainability journey, helping you develop your own sustainability programme. More can be found out here. This tool should make sustainability more accessible.
The Toolbox includes:
- A set of eight How-to Guides provide a step-by-step process for implementing a sustainability program within your organisation.
- 24 customisable templates will help you draft your sustainability policy, map your stakeholders, track your targets.
- The case studies show examples of how organisations have utilise The Toolbox to establish their own sustainability program.
Tracking your carbon footprint is a great place to start when looking at how and where to decarbonise your operations, whether you are a sailing club, class association, or MNA.
Here is a carbon calculator adapted from The Toolbox to help you easily calculate the carbon footprint of your activities. This is a simple calculator where you only need to choose your unit and input the values for each section to obtain your total carbon footprint. From this you can identify where you have high emissions and possible steps you can take to decarbonise these processes.
This Energy Audit Checklist can assist you tracking of energy use and how best to reduce emissions from these operations. Most suited for use at sailing clubs or events.
Equipment Recycling Hub at the Allianz World Sailing Championships
World Sailing partnered with World Sailing Trust and METSTRADE at The Hague to deliver the equipment recycling hub. Here traditionally hard to recycle materials were able to be responsibly disposed of. The items collected were sails, carbon fibre, glass fibre (GRP), clothing, rope, blocks and other fittings.
