World Sailing is seeking a Sustainability Manager to join our dynamic team.

Background
World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
World Sailing is responsible for:
- the promotion of the sport internationally;
- managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games;
- developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions;
- the training of judges, umpires and other administrators;
- the development of the sport around the world; and
- representing sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
The principal members of World Sailing are the 145 ‘Member National Authorities’ (MNAs) and the 100+ ‘Class Associations’.

In 2018, World Sailing’s Council voted unanimously to adopt the Sustainability Agenda 2030. Containing 56 targets with varying timeframes, Sustainability Agenda 2030 forms the framework to address sustainabilty issues across the sport which was compiled through global consultaion.
Role
The Sustainability Manager will support the Head of Sustainability with the co-ordination and delivery of the organisation’s Sustainability Agenda 2030. You will manage the day-to-day delivery of Agenda 2030 and work with other departmentsand key stakeholders on the delivery of sustainability targets as well as innovative projects as they present themselves.
This is an exciting role which will present the right candidate with the opportunity to make a substantial impact at an international federation with well-established credibility in this area.
Key Responsibilities
To support the Head of Sustainability with the co-ordination and delivery of Sustainability Agenda 2030 by:
- Monitoring progress in delivery of programmes.
- Maintaining partnerships to deliver programmes.
- Delivering organisational and event carbon footprinting and KPI reporting.
- Reporting to Head of Sustainability and Sustainability Commission on progress in delivery of programmes.
- Ensuring sustainability ethos embedded into programmes and organisational culture.
- Providing content for communication opportunities across programmes and actively promote the sustainability work of World Sailing at conferences and events.
Maintain the operation of ISO20121 sustainability management system through:
- Maintenance of documents and records
- Tracking delivery of the action plan and monitoring KPIs
- Maintainance of legal register
- Compliance monitoring including working with local event organisers, auditing events and managing requirements of international agreements.
- Ensuring relevant team members are aware of procedures and processes and support them in implementation.
Providing secretariat support to the Sustainability Commission by:
- Planning, preparing and coordinating Commission meetings with the Commission Chair and CEO.
- Ensuring meetings are accurately recorded and actions managed.
World Sailing operational sustainability support through:
- Ensuring staff have sufficient support for delivery of sustainability objectives eg, waste, procurement, energy, water, catering, transport and travel
- Promoting internal sustainability initiatives and raising awareness within the World Sailing team
- Project management of the World Sailing Sustainability Awards as part of the World Sailing Annual Conference.
- Collating and promoting best practice from across the sport, industry and adjacent sectors and gathering content spotlighting sustainability from across the sport for use both internally and externally
- Providing support to the planning, implementation of World Sailing events and operations.
- Managing education and learning opportunities both internally and with our membership groups.
Maintain strong partnerships through:
- Sharing best practice (such as World Sailing Sustianbility Education Prgramme) with Member National Authorities, National Olympic Committees and other International Federations.
- Working with World Sailing Sponsors and supporters to build and promote relevant sustainability activation programmes that can further develop our vision for a sustainable sport
- Building strong partnerships with relevant sustainability and environmental organisations,
Developing research partnerships with academic institutions and industry to support the achievement of our Agenda 2030.

Personal Attributes & Experience
Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of all aspects of sustainability
- Understanding of essential requirements of ISO Management systems – document control, data tracking, ideally ISO 20121 with understanding of environmental legal compliance
Essential:
- Graduate in environmental science or other relevant first degree
- Experience in a similar sustainability operations role, with an understanding of the social and environmental challenges specific to the sport industry or other related sectors.
- Excellent written and verbal English language skills (technical and non-technical writing)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High level of competency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Teams and Sharepoint)
- Strong data management skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Comfortable working irregular hours and international travel
- Self-motivated and solutions focussed
- A teamplayer who wants to be a part of delivering impact
Desirable:
- Understanding of and experience in sailing or another sport
- Knowledge of the marine industry
- Good presentation skills
- Second Europen language (French or Spanish)
- Carbon accounting experience
