Background

World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As an International Federation, World Sailing is responsible for promoting the sport, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the regulation and development of the sport worldwide.

The principle members of World Sailing are the 147 Member National Authorities (MNAs) and more than 100 Class Associations within the sport.

Our mission is to make sailing more exciting and accessible for everyone to participate or watch and use our reach and influence to create a sustainable future for our sport and the waters of the world.

Roles

Youth Olympic Games

Purpose: To support the successful delivery and enduring legacy of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, whilst assisting World Sailing staff in achieving the strategic objectives for sailing at the event.

Term of Appointment: December 2026

Reporting To: Youth Events Committee

Membership: To be determined following an open call for expressions of interest.

Member Criteria: no criteria however, the below are desirable:

  • Experience with Olympic or Youth Olympic sailing events, either as an organiser, coach, or athlete.
  • Familiarity with sport development in emerging regions, particularly in Africa.
  • Understanding of World Sailing’s Emerging Nations Program and Development & Regions Committee activities.
  • Ability to build partnerships with grassroots and national programs.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, logistical, and socio-economic challenges in developing sailing infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills and capacity to work across diverse international stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Selected Bidder and relevant stakeholders on event pathway and legacy for Africa
  • Work with WS Emerging Nations Program and the Development & Regions Committee
  • Identify and work with existing grassroots and formal programs in Africa

 

Youth Worlds Event Standards & Essentials

Purpose: To define and maintain consistent minimum standards for logistics and deliverables at the Youth Sailing World Championships, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.

Term of Appointment: December 2027

Reporting To: Youth Events Committee

Membership: To be determined following an open call for expressions of interest.

Member Criteria: no criteria however, the below are desirable:

  • Practical experience in delivering or managing major events, especially in sailing.
  • Technical knowledge of race management, logistics, and onshore infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with athlete and coach needs during international regattas.
  • Awareness of sustainability, accessibility, and safety standards in sports event delivery.
  • Experience in drafting or evaluating event contracts, NORs, or venue agreements.
  • Detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to consistent quality across events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define minimum onshore and logistical standards for Youth Sailing World Championships (venue, safety, transportation, communication, sustainability, media, food & amenities)
  • Define minimum standards for racing (race management, protest processes including translation, umpire access, boat transition time)
  • Develop tools for WS to ensure compliance and control standards

 

Youth Worlds Event Organisation Financial Feasibility

Purpose: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the Youth Sailing World Championships by analysing budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and assessing sponsorship engagement to support financially sustainable event delivery.

Term of Appointment: December 2027

Reporting To: Youth Events Committee

Membership: To be determined following an open call for expressions of interest.

Member Criteria: no criteria however, the below are desirable:

  •  Experience in event budgeting, financial planning, or cost management within sailing or similar sports.
  • Familiarity with sponsorship metrics (e.g., ROI, engagement, visibility) and stakeholder reporting.
  • Knowledge of the cost structures and resource needs of youth sailing events.
  • Analytical skills to interpret budget data and identify trends or inefficiencies.
  • Understanding of financial challenges faced by MNAs, clubs, and organizing authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather data on budget adherence and cost per attendee
  • Map cost structures for major Youth Events
  • Identify best practices for cost-saving
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality
  • Assess Sponsor Satisfaction with YSWC (ROI, visibility, engagement)
