World Sailing is seeking Expressions of Interest from World Sailing Members for 10 Working Groups

Salary Range:  Voluntary Role but all reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with World Sailing expenses policy.

Background

World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As an International Federation, World Sailing is responsible for promoting the sport, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the regulation and development of the sport worldwide.

The principle members of World Sailing are the 147 Member National Authorities (MNAs) and more than 100 Class Associations within the sport.

Our mission is to make sailing more exciting and accessible for everyone to participate or watch and use our reach and influence to create a sustainable future for our sport and the waters of the world.

Roles

Call Books Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Create Call Book for Fleet Racing (with Common calls)
    Manage MR and TR Call Books.
    Review Rule Opinions/Q&As and liaise with Rule Opinion Working Group

Case Book Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Update Case Book as per rules cycle
    Initiate possible changes to the Cases and, if appropriate, write Proposals
    Prepare Case Book Supplements
    Work with the Rule Opinion WG/Q&A Panel to find those Q&As that merit to become Cases

Digital Officiating Rules Working Group

  • 2 year appointment (initial)
  • To work with ROC and provide support on developing rules to support digitial officiating

High Speed Rules Working Group

  • 12 month appointment
  • Review HS rules and move from a Development Rule to a formal Appendix

Match Racing Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Initiate Appendix C changes and, if appropriate, write Proposals.
    Review Rapid Response Calls published and liaise with Call Books WG on updating Call Book
    Advise RRC on MR Rules and Calls proposed by others
    Advise RRC on any other MR rules matters.
    Implement other decisions of RRC, as appropriate.

Proposals Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Co-ordinate Proposals to be submitted, in consultation with the different RRC working parties.
    Manage the Proposals received by WS to which the RRC is the reporting committee or deciding committee and organise them for the RRC to work in an efficient way.
    Compilate the approved changes to the RRS and keep an update draft of the 2029-2032 RRS containing the approved changes.

Rule 86.2 Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Review the applications submitted by OAs under rule 86.2
    Engage with the submitter in case of a reason for the request not to be approved
    Issue approvals on behalf of the Committee or refer to the Board in controversial cases

Rule Opinion Working Group (Q&A Panel)

  • 4 year appointment
  • Joint WG with ROC
    Provides opinions of experienced race officials.
    Covers old Q&A and Rapid Response Call process.
    Must liaise with Call Book WG, MR WG and TR WG where appropriate.
    Refers questions to other WS bodies if more appropriate for their consideration

Team Racing Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Initiate Appendix D changes and, if appropriate, write Proposals.
    Review Rapid Response Calls published and liaise with Call Books WG on updating Call Book
    Advise RRC on TR Rules and Calls proposed by others
    Advise RRC on any other TR rules matters.
    Implement other decisions of RRC, as appropriate.

Umpired Fleet Racing Working Group

  • 4 year appointment
  • Initiate Appendix MR and UF changes and, if appropriate, write Proposals.
    Review Rapid Response Calls published and liaise with Call Books WG on updating Call Book
    Advise RRC on FR Rules and Calls proposed by others
    Advise RRC on any other FR rules matters.
    Implement other decisions of RRC, as appropriate.
