Safeguarding
World Sailing has adopted the definitions of harassment and abuse as set out by the International Olympic Committee and the framework to promote safe sport through its resources and educational materials.
World Sailing believes that the welfare and interests of vulnerable populations are paramount in all circumstances. Behaviour and actions that constitute harassment and abuse will not be tolerated and constitute a violation of the World Sailing Code of Ethics and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Code of Ethics.
Everyone who participates in Sailing has the right to a positive and enjoyable experience of sport in a safe environment. World Sailing acknowledges the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of all individuals involved within Sailing.
All reports are to be made to the WS Safeguarding Officer via email to safeguarding@sailing.org and will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, save for the need to inform the necessary public or other sporting bodies.
The confidentiality will be maintained in respect of all;
- (i) data collected (in writing or electronically) relating to Covered Individuals and
- (ii) information and documentation relating to safeguarding allegations, concerns and incidents.
The IOC Safeguarding Toolkit has been created to assist the Olympic Movement to develop and implement athlete safeguarding policies and procedures.
To complement the toolkit and ensure that athletes, their entourage and other individuals understand the core components of this sensitive topic, a free bite-size IOC Athlete Safeguarding e-learning course has been developed and launched on the IOC Athlete Learning Gateway.
