MNA Development

World Sailing training and development programs for MNAs can help develop staff, provide training resources and structures, as well as assure standards.

World Sailing’s development programmes are available to MNA’s to help them further their training programs and overall development.

World Sailing Training Scholarship

The World Sailing Training Scholarship is a 7-week residential program, designed to develop the skills of practicing coaches or those individuals already working in a training manager capacity.

This intensive course is designed to up skill participants in a variety of different areas in order for them to be able to lead the development of a National Training Program and train the next cohort of instructors and coaches within their National Federation.

Participants experience all variety of sailing disciplines including Kiteboarding, Windsurfing, Dinghy, Multihull and Keelboats. Participants also hone their practical skills in Power boat handling and safety. Project management is a key feature of the course, allowing the participants to develop the skills required to maintain such a programme within the unique sailing ‘landscape’ of their home nations.

Recognised Training

World Sailing Member National Authorities (MNAs) with an established National Training Programme (NTP) for Sailing can apply for World Sailing Recognised Training. The Recognised Training Accreditation provides a framework against which an NTP (dinghy, multihull, windsurf, kiteboard, keelboat / yacht) can be audited and mapped to international ‘best practice’, ensuring that certain core elements are in place and at a sustainable level.

The audit covers 5 main areas: Sustainability, Safety, Program Content, Program Delivery and Maintaining Performance Standards.

World Sailing Coaching Framework

The development of a World Sailing Coaching Framework aims to provide all World Sailing Member National Authorities (MNAs) with a common ground for developing and evaluating coaching qualifications / certification, encouraging coach education and training, working across international boundaries and establishing ethical guidelines and models for standards of international best practice.

Development of a National Sport System

Development of a National Sport System (DNSS) is an Olympic Solidarity funded program available to MNA’s through their National Olympic Committee.

This is an extremely varied program which allows MNA’s to put into place a medium- or long-term action plan to develop and strengthen their basic coaching structures and related sport systems.

Projects may last between 6-12 months and can greatly improve an MNA’s structures in coaching, instructing, officiating or talent identification.

Development Symposium

The Development Symposium is an annual event open to all MNA’s to discuss training and development topics and initiatives. Held across three days the program consists of talks and interactive forums on areas across the sport, focusing on four themes: Learning, Sharing, Networking and Planning.

The Development Symposium directly compliments the work of the Development and Regions Committee, with the report from each event helping World Sailing to gather valuable information on how its work can continue to develop, giving those delegates present from New or Emerging Nations, a much needed chance to have their voices heard.

The location of the Symposium moves across the six regions with each edition. Click the button below to find out where the next symposium is heading.
