Wingfoil confirmed as invited event for 2027 World Sailing Championships
World Sailing has selected Wingfoil as the invited event for the 2027 World Sailing Championships, set to take place in Fortaleza and Gdynia. The decision follows a highly competitive bid process that attracted multiple strong proposals.
The inclusion of Wingfoil – which will also be included in the Gdynia test event – was approved by the World Sailing Board after a comprehensive assessment and recommendation from an evaluation panel. This marks a significant milestone for Wingfoiling, which has seen rapid growth and increasing professionalisation in recent years.
A range of competition formats will be tested in Men’s and Women’s events.
Following the conclusion of the test event, World Sailing will call for bids and conduct a selection process to determine the equipment and format for the events to be invited in the 2027 World Sailing Championships.

“We are excited to showcase Wingfoil on the world stage at the 2027 Championships, and I commend the evaluation panel for their thorough work in bringing this recommendation forward.”
