World Sailing extends call for entries for 2026 World AbilitySport Youth Games

With the event set to take place in Mersin, Türkiye, from 15-22 June 2026, this remains a vital opportunity for the next generation of athletes, aged 25 and under, to compete on an international stage and gain essential classification.

Applications are officially still open, but those interested are encouraged to contact World Sailing immediately to secure their place in the fleet. The sailing competition will be held at the Babil Watersports Centre and using the Hansa 303 Class, following the sport’s successful debut at the World Abilitysport Beach Games last year.

To ensure broad international representation and support the growth of Para Inclusive Sailing globally, there will be dedicated funding available for athletes and teams attending the Games. This financial support is designed to assist with the costs of participation, particularly for emerging nations and young sailors who may otherwise face barriers to international competition.

The 2026 World AbilitySport Youth Games represent a vital pathway for emerging athletes to gain international experience and compete in a high-performance environment, as well as an important step within World Sailing’s development structure, linking directly to wider initiatives including the Inclusive Development Programme (IDP) and the World Sailing Inclusion Championships (WSIC).

By providing both a platform for competition and the necessary financial backing, the event aims to strengthen the global Para Inclusive Sailing community and showcase the skill and determination of young sailors from around the world.

Hannah Stodel, World Sailing’s Para Sailing Manager, said, “The World Abilitysport Youth Games represent an exciting opportunity to demonstrate inclusivity and the long-term growth of Para Inclusive Sailing. By providing direct funding and support for these young athletes, we are ensuring that talent, rather than resources, dictates who can compete on the world stage. We want to see a diverse and competitive fleet in Mersin, and I strongly encourage any eligible sailors who have not yet registered to reach out to our team immediately to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Anyone intending to participate, as well as coaches, and national federations should contact World Sailing to discuss entry requirements and funding eligibility. With the final entry deadline of 8 May 2026 approaching, immediate action is required to ensure all logistical and classification arrangements are in place for the trip to Türkiye this June.
