Sailability Hong Kong reaches impressive Steering the Course milestone
As the waves calmed at the end of the most recent edition of Steering the Course, Sailability Hong Kong had engaged 112 female sailors and 41 volunteers - ranging from instructors, sailors as ‘buddy sailors’, and those in race management roles - during a busy week of activities on the water for all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience.
This figure took the total number of people involved in Steering the Course over the past five years to 600 female sailors and 247 female volunteers.
Over the course of a week in June 2025, Sailability Hong Kong and the Hebe Haven Yacht Club hosted a series of events with a focus on encouraging more women and girls to discover the sport and join existing activities held at the club. This included the regular weekly Saturday Sailing group, Inner City Ministries, an organisation which works with Nepalese youth, who this year introduced three female sailors to the sport for the first time.

Several mothers sailed with their daughters from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Ladies Group, 12 women from the Asian Women’s League for a day of sailing, and seniors from the Sai Kung District Community Centre also joined for a day of sailing. The latter group included two women who were 82 and 89 years of age.
Later in the week, Sailability Hong Kong organised a Friends Sailing event where seven new female sailors came along for an introduction to sailing, the Junior Optimist Sailing and Saturday Sailing group took part in the regular Saturday Fun Race Series.

The final day saw Sailability Hong Kong’s 40’ Solaris MoHan (Limitless in English) competing in the Leo Wealth Ladies’ Regatta for the first time. Two female Para Sailors were also on board: Leung Yuk Chun, Sylvia, who has sailed on MoHan in many races, and Oi Po Cheung who had a just a few practice days. There was also a Hansa 303 fun race on the same day with ladies from the ILM Group.
Kay Rawbone, CEO and Co-Founder of Sailability Hong Kong, said, “To see what we have achieved with the support of Hebe Haven Yacht Club to date really is amazing. Thank you to everyone over the years who has supported us. Our sponsors, sailors, volunteers, Hebe Haven Yacht Club as our venue, and everyone involved. It is a great event to be part of, and the number of people have an impact on is really pleasing year after year.”

Sailability Hong Kong aims to continue supporting Steering the Course and other World Sailing Initiatives as it spreads the word about the benefits, accessibility and inclusivity of sailing as a sport many never thought they could experience.
