Sailability Hong Kong: New Milestones

Sailability Hong Kong (Sailability HK) were donated a 40’ Solaris, MoHan (Limitless), in July 2022 by the LI Ka Shing Foundation. The boat, which is maintained by members of Hong Kong’s Solarista Club, enables Sailability HK to play a bigger role within the Hong Kong sailing community.

After a few months of preparation, Para Sailors from Sailability HK developed and improved their big boat handing skills and are now participating in bigger races and events.

2023 began with one of Hong Kong’s most gruelling event, the Solaris4Peaks Race. The crew of 12, which included four sailors and two runners with disability, achieved second place. The crew sailed, kayaked and ran over a period of 26hrs scaling four of the largest peaks in Hong Kong.

MoHan also provides experiences to other sailors who join the programmes including sailors with Special Education Needs, Autism, and those who are Hearing and Visually Impaired.

About the Solaris4Peaks Race

During the Solaris4Peaks Race, teams sail from Hong Kong Island to Sai Kung. They then drop anchor and put runners ashore via kayak who scale Ma On Shan (702m). They then sail back and send two runners ashore to run up Violet Hill (433m) behind Repulse Bay. The teams sail from there to Lantau and hike up the highest peak in Hong Kong – Lantau Peak (934m) – and back to Lamma Island to hike up Mount Stenhouse (353m) before making their way to the finish line near Repulse Bay. All in all, around 95nm of sailing, much of it overnight.

“It is an iconic challenge which is considered to be one of the most arduous sailing races in Asia,” said Barry Hill, Vice Commodore of Aberdeen Boat Club.
