Submissions will be assessed by an expert panel of judges comprising Alexandra Rickham, World Sailing Head of Sustainability, double Olympic champion Hannah Mills OBE, nine-time world champion Peter Burling MNZM, world-renowned conservationist and photographer Cristina Mittermeier, polar explorer Lungi Mchunu, founder of the SuMoth Challenge Bruno Giuntoli and Managing Director of 11th Hour Racing Todd McGuire.

The shortlist of four finalists will be announced on 22 September.

From these finalists, a public vote will help decide the winner which will be announced at the 2022 World Sailing Awards on 25 October during the World Sailing Annual Conference in Abu Dhabi.

Winners will receive a $10,000 USD prize to further their sustainability programme.

Alexandra Rickham, chair of the judging panel, said, “The response so far from the global sailing community has been really good with a lot of strong entries showing the diversity of the sport. To ensure we receive as many entries as possible we are extending the deadline by a week. Each year, innovations in sustainability inspire change within the sport and by making programs easily replicated we are contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Launched in 2018, the award celebrates the delivery of high-impact, highly replicable sustainability initiatives aligned with the World Sailing Sustainability Agenda 2030. World Sailing and 11th Hour Racing encourage entries from individual sailors, sailing clubs, events, classes, federations, and the wider marine industry, no matter how big or small their programme or initiative may be. Past winners of the award have all demonstrated a commitment to reducing their environmental impact and raising awareness around conservation.
