Day #5 - How to Follow - Three Classes to be Decided

Six of the nine classes wrapped up yesterday, leaving only the Girls’ 420 and Boys’ and Girls’ 29er Classes to be decided.

Carmen and Emma Cowles of the U.S. lead the Girls’ 420 Class and should be able to capture a second consecutive gold medal so long as they don’t sail a discard race today. They’re already discarding a UFD (26 points) from being over the start line early in Race 3, so their margin for error is slim.
 
In the Boys’ and Girls’ 29er classes, Norwegian compatriots Mathias Berthet and Alexander Franks-Penty lead the Boys’ Class while Pia Andersen and Nora Edland lead the Girls’ Class. Berthet and Franks-Penty hold a 10-point lead while Andersen and Edland hold an 18-point lead, giving each crew some wiggle room.
 
Yesterday’s gold rush saw Americans claim three of the six classes, including Charlotte Rose in the Girls’s Laser Radial (her second consecutive gold medal), Geronimo Nores in the Boys’ RS:X Class and JC Hermus and Walter Henry in the Boys’ 420 Class.
 
Also winning gold were New Zealander Josh Armit in the Boys’ Laser Radial, Teresa Romairone and Dante Cittadini of Argentina in the Nacra 15 Class (by an astounding 30 points), and Islay Watson of Great Britain in the Girls’ RS:X Class (after winning all three races on the day).
 
Only one race is scheduled in each class today and it is believed that each class winner will sail today’s race.
