The Greek pair, Dany Paschalidis and Petros Konstantinidis, claim home land victory in the 2017 Tornado World Championships, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Zdenek Pavlis and the 17-year-old, Michaela Pavlisova from Czech Republic, are the 2017 Tornado Worlds Mixed champions.

This is the seventh title in a row for Dany Paschalidis, who accepted the challenge and sailed without Kostas Trigonis, but instead with a young promising talent, Petros.

It was Petro’s first ride on this boat. What to say for this crew! They scored seven bullets, a second and a fourth place. They were undoubtedly the best in the tournament.

Zdenek Pavlis and Michaela Pavlisova fought hard for this title for almost 10 years and they showed shear determination throughout the tournament. After their excellent performance this year, they displayed their skill. The pair also finished seventh in the overall category.

Second overall, is the Hellenic Police team of Nikolaos Mavros and Alexandros Tagaropoulos with just an eight point difference from the top, they managed to achieve a goal and get on the podium after last years’ misfortune. Third place goes to Germany and the father and son team, Bob and Marc Baierwho worked hard to keep speed.

Kostas Trigonis, the multiple World champion, and Stavros Tavoularis (GRE) stand in fourth.
Fifth place goes to Australia, Brett Burvill, the Windrush tornado boat builder and Max Puttman, a young sailmaker from Perth.

Second in the Mixed is the president and his wife, Jürgen and Sarah Jentsch who lost their lead just in the last race.

Third mixed place goes to Markus Betz and Monika Schuster from Germany after a tight battle for the win.

The conditions were very tricky and tricky conditions always grace the best ones. The wind did not seem promising due to the clouds but a rather northern breeze came in at around 1500 hours.

Many wind shifts resulted in a race that was abandoned. The Race Committee decided to wait for the wind to get more stable and they finally managed to start the one and only race of the day.

Congratulations to our winners, to all participants, to the Race Committee for their amazing job as well as to the Nautical club of Thessaloniki and the Sailing club of Thessaloniki for hosting such a great event for the 50th anniversary of our class.
