Changes on leaderboard on Day Three of Aarhus Test Event

The top positions, in the ten Olympic Classes competing in the Hampel Sailing World Championships 2018 Test Event in Aarhus, Denmark, shifted considerably on day three.

The Bay of Aarhus was blessed with blue skies and plenty of sunshine on day three of the Test Event, and some competitors really capitialised on the favourable conditions.
 
Temperatures averaged 21°C with a south westerly breeze blowing 8-11 knots with gusts of 16 knots.

Polish RS:X M Windsurfer, Pawel Tarnowski, remains in pole position at the end of day three. Tarnowski felt that he could have done better but experienced some challenges on the race course, “I won my first race, however my second two races were disappointing.
 
“There was floating grass in the water, which kept getting stuck to my board, and that slowed me down.”

Lilian de Geus (NED) continues to lead in the Women’s RS:X by an impressive 25 points, ahead of Marta Maggetti (ITA), who moves from third to second. The Brazilian, Patricia Freitas, moves to third.

Foiling Nacra 17, Italian duo, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Marianna Banti dropped to third place, whilst Danish pair, Lin Ea Cenholt and Christian Peter Lubeck, move up to first position, overnight. Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders (NZL) sit in second.

It is a Dutch one-two in the Laser Radial Class. Marit Bouwmeester remains in top spot and Maxime Jonker moves into second. Swede, Josefin Olsson, dropped from second to third.

Jonker, commented on how the conditions gave her an advantage, “The weather yesterday (Wednesday) was tricky because we had big waves. However, being further out in the water today, the waves were much flatter and I managed to perform better”.
 
The Australian leaders of the Laser Class changed positions on on day three. Matthew Wearn now sits first and Tom Burton, second. Thomas Saunders (NZL) remains in third.

In the One-Man Dinghy, Finn, Nicholas Heiner (NED) swooped into first position dropping the Hungarian, Zsombor Berecz, into second. Arkadiy Kistanov (RUS) moves down from second to third.
 
Sailing on home waters, Danish pair, Jena Hansen and Katja Salskov-Iversen, maintain their lead in the Women’s Skiff, 49erFX. Another change in second and third position, as Tess Lloyd and Eliza Solly (AUS) replace Ragna Agerup and Maia Agerup (NOR) in second. The Norwegians move to third.

The Men’s Skiff, 49er, Fritiof Hedström and Otto Hamel (SWE) step up from third to first. The Germans, Justus Schmidt and Max Boehme advance to second position and the Australians, William Phillips and Sam Phillips, drop from first to third.
 
In the Women’s Two Person Dinghy, 470, Linda Fahrni and Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) keep their first position and the Polish pair of, Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Irmina Mrózek Gliszczynska, shift up from third to second. German team, Nadine Boehm and Ann-Christin Goliaß move down from second to third.

In the Men’s division, Kevin Peponnet and Jeremie Mion (FRA) leap up to first, from second, and the Americans, Stuart Mcnay and Dave Hughes also move up the table, into second. Deniz Cinar and Ates Cinar (TUR) sit in third place overnight.
 
On the land, the new purpose built sailing centre for the 2018 World Championships received a Royal visit. The Crown Prince of Denmark, Frederik André Henrik Christian was in attendance to celebrate the ‘topping out’ of the building.
