Proud Kenyan starting late but aiming high
Watching the LIVE Medal Races from World Cup Series Miami will be an athlete hoping to take in as much information as he can from the RS:X fleet in the hope of reaching the dizzy heights of an Olympics for his native Kenya.
Watching the LIVE Medal Races from World Cup Series Miami will be an athlete hoping to take in as much information as he can from the RS:X fleet in the hope of reaching the dizzy heights of an Olympics for his native Kenya.
Late to the game, Neel Vora seized an opportunity to aim for the summer showpiece when he invested in an RS:X at the age of 34. Now 37, Vora returns to the place he made his Olympic class debut at the 2014 edition to continue his sailing education.
The fully trained aerospace engineer from Mombasa, Kenya now lives in San Francisco where he works at a tech start up looking to revolutionize the aerospace industry. It was this this move and the birth of his daughter which prompted the down to earth athlete.
Vora saw a chance to represent his country of birth and is aiming for the Olympic Games, but he also sails to keep fit and healthy as his daughter and family grows.
Although still early days for the Kenyan, Vora is realistic about his results right now. Even talking about the last place finishes he has to his name, he genuinely smiles and takes it as a defeat to learn from and a true reflection of where he is at present in the Olympic class grand scheme of things.
WATCH as Vora spoke to the Olympic Channel about his goals, ambitions and how he got in to the sport.
