Rio to heat up for race day #2 + How to follow the Paralympic Sailing Competition

Day one of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition saw Rio de Janeiro bathed in beautiful Brazilian sunshine. The wind arrived in a timely manner and as sailing days go, it could not have gone any better.

It was a day for getting some keepers on the board and upon casting an eye over the results, it’s fair to say that Australia were the dominant force after two races across the three Paralympic events. Aussie sailors lead in the SKUD18 and Sonar with Matt Bugg placed in fourth in a 2.4 Norlin OD fleet that is led by Helena Lucas (GBR).
 
On the second day of competition, the frontrunners will want to continue where they left off and further assert themselves.
 
In order to do that, they’ll have to battle their competitors in a lighter south easterly breeze, ranging from 4-9 knots, with temperatures soaring up to 37 degrees.
 
Each fleet will sail two races with the SKUD18 kick starting racing at 13:00 followed by the 2.4 Norlin OD at 13:10 on the Escola Naval area. The Sonar will race on the Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf Mountain) are, starting at 13:00.

RIO 2016 PARALYMPIC SAILING COMPETITION

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition will take place at the Marina da Glória, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will feature 80 athletes from 23 nations competing across three events. Racing is scheduled to take place from 12-17 September 2016 and the competition format for all events is fleet racing.
