Racers ready for day #1 + How to follow the Paralympic Sailing Competition

The first day of sailing at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition is upon us and the day and week is set for a spectacular showcase.

Eighty of the world’s finest Paralympic athletes from 23 nations racing across three Paralympic fleets are rigged and ready to race out of Marina da Gloria across two sailing areas on Guanabara Bay.
 
The Two-Person Keelboat (SKUD18) will kick off proceedings on the Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf Mountain) racing area at 13:00. The One-Person Keelboat (2.4 Norlin OD) will follow shortly after at 13:10. The Three-Person Keelboat (Sonar) will race on the Escola Naval at 13:00. All fleets are scheduled to sail two races.
 
The forecast shows an increasing breeze as the wind direction switches from the north east to the south east from 11:00 local time. The direction will veer slightly to the east as the day progresses with 8-16 knots predicted.

RIO 2016 PARALYMPIC SAILING COMPETITION

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition will take place at the Marina da Glória, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will feature 80 athletes from 23 nations competing across three events. Racing is scheduled to take place from 12-17 September 2016 and the competition format for all events is fleet racing.
