Helena Lucas was a home favourite when she won gold at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
As the only female in the fleet, Lucas topped an experienced field of world champions to please the home crowd. “A home games always make it that much more special,” according to Lucas.
After years of training and focus, Lucas explains her golden feeling, “The first emotion is kind of relief. When it finally sinks in you are on cloud nine.”
As defending Paralympic champion, Lucas will need to be at her best at Rio 2016 to keep hold of her gold medal.
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will take place between 7-18 September in Rio de Janeiro and the sailing is scheduled to be raced between 12-17 September in Guanabara Bay.
