The Business
World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
World Sailing is responsible for: the promotion of the sport internationally, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions, the training of judges, umpires and other administrators, the development of the sport around the world and representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
The Role
The combined role of Programme Manager to the CEO is a new role reporting directly to the CEO.
Although the role will also provide day-to-day support to the CEO, it will importantly have the remit to ensure that programme management principles and disciplines are adopted across World Sailing and that the organisation adopts a project orientated approach to working and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Working with the CEO to convert business strategy into business plans and distinct projects of delivery including matching budgets and resource plans and appropriate programme governance
Close work with the financial controller to ensure that the project budgets are managed effectively and that financial risks are flagged early across the organisation
Designing with all of the various teams (Events, Business Operations, Technical & Commercial) a Programme Roadmap and Scope for all programmes delivered annually by World Sailing
Ensuring the Programme Roadmap and Scope are actively used in the organization and people take accountability for their milestones
Ensuring that risk management, issue management, and effective but appropriate reporting and communication is embedded in the organization
Embedding project management principles at all levels of the organisation including the roll out of relevant training and most importantly an understanding of why project and programme management can help their role and the delivery of services by World Sailing
To encourage and foster a cross functional working environment removing departmental barriers and encouraging inter team working and transfer of knowledge
Support in the delivery of presentations and programme updates for the Board and other Committees and Commissions as directed by the CEO
Providing executive assistance to the CEO to include diary management, travel, expenses preparation, follow-up on actions from the Board, Committees and Management meetings on behalf of the CEO
