Perfect start for local crew at the Youth Match Racing Worlds

Day one of the 2016 Youth Match Racing World Championship opened with a perfect start for the local crew of Cyril Fortin, Kim Goetz, Jéremy Picot in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Day one of the 2016 Youth Match Racing World Championship opened with a perfect start for the local crew of Cyril Fortin, Kim Goetz, Jéremy Picot in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Held at the Cercle Nautique Calédonien (CNC) from 14-18 June, the ten competing teams sailed in a 20-25 knot breeze gusting up to 30 knots with 27 matches in the Elliott 6m keelboats completed on the first day.
 
Seeded #6 in the Youth Match Racing World Championships, local crew, skippered by Cyril Fortin won five out of five races including wins over the Australian crew of Harrison Price, seeded #2 and World #30, and the American crew of Christopher Killian, seeded #3, World #33.
 
The perfect start for the local puts them on top of the leaderboard going in to the second day with the schedule set to continue with the round robin stage. All crews will meet twice before eight teams advance to the quarterfinal stage to fight it out to be crowned Youth Match Racing World Champion.
