Welcome to a beautiful morning in Medemblik for the fourth, and penultimate, day of the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta and the Para Sailing World Championships.
Welcome to a beautiful morning in Medemblik for the fourth, and penultimate, day of the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta and the Para Sailing World Championships.
For the first time this week we have both sun and wind with a good forecast for the rest of the day. This morning there is a steady 10-12 knots easterly blowing on shore at the International Sailing Centre Medemblik with just a bit of high cloud.
The schedule for the day is:
10.30 Sonar (2 races)
10.30 470 M/W (2 races)
11.00 Laser Radial (2 races)
11.00 RS-X Men (3 races)
11.00 SKUD18 (2 races)
13.00 2.4mR (2 races)
13.00 49er M/W(3 races)
13.30 Laser (2 races)
13.30 RS-X Women (3 races)
13.30 Moth (3 races)
For the Olympic classes, today is the final chance to qualify for Saturday’s medal races. In the Paralympic classes the competition is too close to call. The Sonar and 2.4 Norlin OD fleets are extremely close, with just the Polish team with a slight points break in the SKUD18. But it is looking like all the world titles could go down to the final race tomorrow. They have two races each today and try and make a break.
Helena Lucas (GBR), who had the best day on Thursday in the 2.4 Norlin OD, said “You always want to win a world championship but for me and my coach, the goal here was just to check in with the kit and make sure everything was good and the boat was going fast and use it as a lesson for things that still needs to be worked on. We’ve got about 100 days to the Paralympics so there’s still time to work on a few things.”
