There are solid winds and cold temperatures for the first day the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta and 2016 Para World Sailing Championships, as racing gets underway at the International Sailing Centre Medemblik today.
The forecast for the day is for “reasonable” winds but with a warning it would be a cold day on the IJsselmeer. However, the conditions should allow the schedule to proceed as planned. This morning there is a solid 16-22 knot north-westerly wind in place.
Schedule for the day:
11.00 Laser (2 races)
11.00 RS-X Women (3 races)
11.00 49er M/W(3 races)
11.00 2.4mR (2 races)
13.30 Laser Radial (2 races)
13.30 RS-X Men (3 races)
13.30 R470 M/W (2 races)

As well as the Delta Lloyd medals and the Para World Sailing Championship medals up for grabs this week there are also several sailors still trying to win national selection for the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.
The defending Para World Sailing champions are Megan Pascoe (GBR) in the 2.4 Norlin OD, John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas (GBR) in the Sonar and Dan Fitzgibbon and Liesel Tesch (AUS) in the Skud 18. All are here to defend their titles. However, Fitzgibbon and Tesch still have to win the right to defend their London 2012 Paralympic title this week against Amethyst Barnbrook and Brett Pearce (AUS). This is their final qualifier.
The regatta was opened Monday evening at the ISCM by the Mayor of Medemblik Mr Frank Streng.
