The Business
World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
World Sailing is responsible for: the promotion of the sport internationally, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions, the training of judges, umpires and other administrators, the development of the sport around the world and representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
The Role
We are seeking a full-time qualified solicitor or barrister to work closely with senior management team and Board to deliver World Sailing’s corporate governance, risk and compliance programme and advise the World Sailing group companies on their various legal issues. You will join World Sailing at an exciting time as it embarks on a programme of governance reform and be involved in the wider, and diverse, legal work of an Olympic international federation.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Legal Affairs & Governance. We are looking for an excellent and confident communicator, who is able to work well in a team environment and demonstrate effective project management. You will be a highly motivated individual who can work autonomously and able to deal with the day-to-day pressures of deadlines.
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
• Practising solicitor or barrister in England & Wales (at least NQ to 1 year PQE level).
• Demonstrable experience of two or more of the following areas: contracts (including commercial), employment, intellectual property, sports law and corporate governance.
• Comfortable operating at a strategic level and ‘hands on’ operational delivery.
• Solutions focused, pragmatic and practical in approach
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
• Senior stakeholder and relationship management skills
Experience of working for (or advising) international federations, national governing bodies or other not-for-profit organizations, and an understanding and interest in sailing and sport are desirable.
