Role Description
World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
World Sailing is responsible for: the promotion of the sport internationally, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions, the training of judges, umpires and other administrators, the development of the sport around the world and representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
Working within the Events department, the candidate would be required to:
– Promote and develop Para World Sailing with the objective of sailing being reinstated to the 2024 Paralympic Games;
– Manage and build key relationships with all Para World Sailing stakeholders including the International Paralympic Committee, Member National Federations, National Paralympic Committees, Athletes, Coaches, Classes and Manufacturers;
– Support the work of the Para World Sailing Committee and establish key targets and goals for the development of Para World Sailing;
– Act as Technical Delegate for the Para World Sailing Championships from 2017 onwards;
– Support the work of the Sailing World Cup manager to fully integrate Para World Sailing in to the Sailing World Cup;
– Support the development of the Para World Sailing Development Program;
– Support the development of Para World Sailing race officials;
– Act as a line manager within the Events Department and liaise closely with the other World Sailing departments;
Other Competition Department Roles
– Support the work of the Events Department and any other World Sailing Committees or Commissions, including international travel to meeting and events;
– Support the work of the Events Department at the World Sailing Annual Conference;
– Any other tasks assigned.
Candidate Profile
Required
– Passion for Paralympic sport and a commitment to developing Para World Sailing;
– Good knowledge of event management, World Sailing rules and regulations;
– Exceptional communication, influencing and interpersonal skills;
– Available to spend periods of time at events and meetings around the world;
– Sound judgement and common sense in high pressure situations;
– Ability to manage both professionals and volunteers to achieve success;
– Capacity to interact with people from different countries and cultures;
– High level of personal presentation, preparation and organisation;
– Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
– Experience of event management at international sailing events;
– Experience of sail racing;
– Ability to speak another language (French or Spanish) in addition to English.
