So you’re heading to Langkawi this December for the 2015 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships. You know what to do, you know where you’re staying, you know what you’re going to eat but do you know where you’ll be sailing and what conditions to expect?
Chances are, the majority reading this will be clued up already with masses of data and information widely available on the internet. If you’re not, well now is your opportunity to get a quick rundown of what to expect.
Langkawi is a year round tropical sailing destination however the best conditions for sailing come around…that’s right…you guessed it… during the time the ISAF Youth Worlds is on.
There will be four racing areas in Malaysia with Course C likely to be shifted to the east with Course D introduced to the west. The racing areas are well protected and close to the National Sailing Centre so don’t expect far to sail out.
Speak to the local organisers and they will tell you that the breeze will be in before you wake up. With this in mind, early starts are almost a certainty. Around the time of the ISAF Youth Worlds the breeze is predicted to come from a north easterly direction in the region of 15-20 knots with some tidal movement. With the racing areas being well protected, don’t expect a lot of waves but the wind speed should make things fun 🙂
It’s set to be a sunny event as well with the period usually enjoying dry and sunny spells with the temperature in the region of 30 degrees.
So bring the sun tan lotion and get ready for a great week!
