Wishful Wednesday - Aquece Rio, the Olympic Test - How to Follow - Day 5

If we’re to believe the forecast, it will be a day of wishing for the wind to kick in at the Aquece Rio – International Sailing Regatta 2015.

It could be a perfect day for sun worshippers on Flamengo, Copacabana and Ipanema Beach with up to 31 degrees forecast and a mild breeze. Wonderful for those aiming to top up their tan but for 326 sailors from 50 nations, far from ideal.

A light northerly breeze greeted the early risers at Marina da Gloria and as the day goes on it is expected to turn to the south and drop to 2-6 knots at 14:00.

As the day progresses the breeze could pick up to 5-10 knots inside Guanabara Bay and 4-8 knots outside. For now, the sailors will be playing the waiting game.

A total of 28 races are scheduled across the six course areas and with breeze at a minimum, the Race Committees will be hard pressed to start on time and fit in all races. But when it fills in, they’ll be ready and waiting for the competitors to get going.
