British duo crowned RS500 World Champions

Peter Barton and Heather Chipperfield (GBR 1015) have been crowned champions at the 2015 RS500 Worlds, hosted by Aquavitesse in The Netherlands.

The British duo won a close contest with Malin Broberg and Johan Rook (SWE 112) who narrowly missed out on the title due to an unlucky OCS by the Swedish team, followed by top family team Peter and James Curtis (GBR 659) in third.

Racing on the final day was postponed, twice, due to lack of wind, but when the wind did come it brought about some tight racing and a competitive finish to the Championship, which was eventually determined by the OCS in the gold fleet.

The silver fleet finished with two races, difficult winds and numerous capsized boats and with Richard Rot and Marieke Gijzel (NED 1088) top of the pile.

Back ashore, the event was concluded with the prizegiving, which as well as the main title also included such titles as the ‘faithful dog award’ and the ‘most epic moment caught on camera’.
