ISAF Officials Conduct Rio de Janeiro Site Visit
During the week commencing 9 March 2015 ISAF Vice-President Scott Perry, ISAF Events Committee Chairman Pablo Masseroni and ISAF Head of Competitions Alastair Fox conducted a site visit of Rio de Janeiro in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition.

During the week commencing 9 March 2015 ISAF Vice-President Scott Perry, ISAF Events Committee Chairman Pablo Masseroni and ISAF Head of Competitions Alastair Fox conducted a site visit of Rio de Janeiro in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition.
The fifth official site-visit allowed ISAF’s officials to discuss ISAF’s concerns on the physical objects in Guanabara Bay’s water which can affect the outcome of competition and the contamination of the water which can affect the health of the competitors.
ISAF’s representatives met with senior staff members of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games as well as the President and Secretary General of the Brazilian Sailing Federation (CB Vela).
Rio 2016 are in the process of finalising plans to ensure the water is safe during the Olympic Test Event, in August 2015, the southern hemisphere summer training period, the pre-Games training period as well as during the Olympic Games itself.
It was confirmed that daily sampling of water would be conducted continuously until the Olympic Games, including during the Olympic Test Event, and during the Olympic Games itself.
ISAF are determined that no effort should be spared in addressing urgent matters related to Rio 2016.
Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition
The Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition will take place at the Marina da Glória, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will feature 380 athletes competing across ten events.
Racing is scheduled to take place from 8-18 August 2016 and the competition format for all events is fleet racing.
