The Semana Internacional del Yachting de Mar del Plata has concluded in Argentina with racing across seven classes.
It was a difficult week on the water with an up and down breeze present across the race tracks.
Julio Alsogaray confirmed his spot on the Pan-American Games Laser start line by taking gold. The Argentine was a dominant figure on the rack track, taking seven bullets from ten races.
Alsogaray claimed gold by a substantial margin, finishing 17 points clear of Juan Pablo Bisio. Juan Ignacio Biava and Federico Yandian had a final day shoot out for the final podium position. Locked on 26 points apiece heading into the day it was wide open. Biava started well, finishing second to Yandian’s eighth.
The ball was in Biava’s court but Yandian hit back with a final race bullet. Biava came through in fifth which handed him a two point advantage and bronze.
In the Laser Radial, Francisco Renna was near on unbeatable and ended the regatta in great shape. Two first places on the final day stretched his lead to 22 points over Francisco Guarangna. Ignacio Rodriguez completed the podium.
Lucia Falasca was the leading female in the Laser Radial fleet.
Ignacio Varisco and Federico Garcia had a strong week in the 29er, amassing seven bullets from 14 races. They claimed gold ahead of Brian Higgins and Nicolas Peirano and Alexander Alberto Baudoino and Martin Cubria.
Felipe Diniz and Ivan Aranguren had a close battle in the 420 against Agustin Rosemary and Fermin Jacobs. The points went to and fro across a close week of racing and it all boiled down to the Medal Race with two points separating the pair.
Diniz and Aranguren managed to come through in third to their rivals fifth which promoted them up into gold medal position.
Luis Soubie and Diego Lipszyc were on form in the Snipe, taking five out of five race victories to seal a comfortable victory.
In the Cadet, gold went the way of Mateo Ronchi and Valentino Lancon. Optimist Beginners gold was claimed by Aberastury Baptist whilst the Helmsman title was picked up by Lucas Videla.
