ISAF Guide To Yachting Publication Now Available

The ISAF Guide to Yachting – Crewing publication is the first of three books in the ISAF Guide to Yachting series and has been created for those wishing to start yachting. Each book will provide ideal background reading for anyone wishing to develop their background knowledge.

This first book in the Guide to Yachting series is written specifically for those who are learning to be Crew on-board a yacht, covering the topics below and many more:
-Basic principles (Yacht and rig types, steering)
-Life on board (personal safety equipment, collision regulations)
-Mooring and Rope-work (Knots, mooring and anchoring)
-Sails and Controls (Controlling the sails, using winches / clutches and reefing)
-Wind and Sailing (Beaufort Scale, Sailing upwind / downwind and basic spinnaker handling)
-Systems (Cooking, basic chart-work and use of instrumentation)
-Emergencies (Fire, Man Overboard, VHF)

The next two titles in the series will be ‘ISAF Guide to Yachting – Chart work / navigation’ and ‘ISAF Guide to Yachting – Inshore Skipper’.

Author of the Guide to Yachting series, Simon Jinks said of this resource, “The skills required to sail a boat are easily gained, but can seem daunting at first. Sailing has its own nautical language and specialist terms. Yachts have lots of different lines that look complicated, but in fact have simple and straight forward uses. This book will help steer the new crew through the sailing terms and language, and support their knowledge while learning the ropes.”

The resource can also be obtained via a country-specific licence by all ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs). Once MNAs have bought the licence they can personalise the resources in the following ways:

1.Translating all text (if required);
2.Adding MNA Logos and contact details to relevant pages;
3.Including a personalised introduction, specific and relevant to their MNA;
4.Changing pictures to include more national images of sailing;
5.Include MNA specific National Yacht Training Pathway information;
6.Make use of the 2 pages of potential Sponsorship space included in each book, enabling the federation to sell space to help pay for books;
7.Printing all resources in their country and not paying extra for shipping.
