The last day of competition at the RS:One Trikora Beach World Championship in Bintan Island, Indonesia saw a perfect sunny sky and a 14 knot breeze.
The race committee scheduled three races back to back considering the threat of a dry reef with the afternoon low tide.
The first surprise of the day was the victory of Indonesian sailor Suartana Komang ahead of Cheng Kwok Fai and Geylord Coveta. The second race passed without any radical surprises as the podium contenders controlled each other.
In the third race of the day, in an increasing breeze, Geylord Coveta thought he had done the job by finishing second but this was without knowing he had crossed the start line early under a black flag.
In the women’s fleet Ma Kwan Ching, from Hong Kong, saw Syadine Arethusa, from Indonesia, cross the finish line in first place to take the final podium position from her team mate Rio Horirah.
The Hong Kong Team demonstrated impressive consistency and maturity in these championships claiming the Men and the Women World titles.
