Charbonnier And Le Berre Absolute Winners Of 39 GAES Christmas Race
Nicolas Charbonnier and Nicolas Le Berre (FRA) have won the Manuel Albalat Trophy and are the absolute winners of the 39 GAES Christmas Race.

Nicolas Charbonnier and Nicolas Le Berre (FRA) have won the Manuel Albalat Trophy and are the absolute winners of the 39 GAES Christmas Race.
Charbonnier, 470 bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 420 World Champion in Palamós in 1998. Chabonnier won the Manuel Company Trophy to the best youth team in 2008. This is the first time Charbonnier has won the Absolute Winner trophy with crew Nicolas Le Berre. The Miquel Company Trophy is Mon Cañellas (ESP) winner in the Men’s Laser Radial.
A total of five Spanish teams have claimed victory at the 39 GAES Christmas Race. Two in Olympic Classes with Joaquín Blanco in Laser Standard and Alonso brothers in 49er and three in Youth classes, Mon Cañellas in Laser Radial men, Marc Lladó and Fran González and Carmen and Julia Dávila in 420 boys and girls respectively.
Joaquin Blanco (ESP) claimed the Laser victory and is joined on the podium by French sailors Eliot Merceron and Antony Munos, second and third respectively.
The podium in the 49er class is led by Spanish Brothers Federico and Arturo Alonso followed by Stefano Cherin and Andrea Tesei (ITA) and third place overall went to Fritiof Hedström and Niclas Düring (FIN).
There was French victory in the men’s and women’s 470 with Maeleen Lemaitre and Aloise Retornaz claiming the women’s title. France also takes the third place of the podium with team Cassandre Blandin and Bérénice Delpuech while second overall were Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López (ESP).
Nicolas Charbonnier and Nicolas Le Berre (FRA) took four bullets in the five races sailed to take the men’s 470 title with silver going to Guillaume Pirouelle and Valentin Sipan also from France. Third overall are the 2014 470 Youth World Champions Jordi Xammar and Joan Herp (ESP).
Hungarian sailor Zsombor Berecz has claimed victory in the Finn class followed by Milan Vujasinovic (CRO) and Frederico Melo from Portugal, second and third respectively.
Gold and silver go to Poland in the women’s Laser Radial women with sailors Agata Barwinska, and Anna Weinzieher (Energa) first and second overall. Third place went to Karyna Manuel from Great Britain.
In the men’s Laser Radial Mon Cañellas and Ramiro Foguet, both from Spain took gold and silver with third overall going to British sailor Matt Whitfield.
Spain claimed victory in the boys and girls 420 events with Marc Lladó and Javier González taking the boys title and Carmen and Julia Dávila the girls. Second place overall in the boys fleet went to Max Clapp and Ross Banham (GBR) followed by Arnaud Herail and Paco Lepoutre from France in third place. In the girls 420 girls, Maria Bover and Margarita Alba (ESP) took silver with Austrian sailors Angelika Kohlendorfer and Viktoria Puxkandi completing the podium.
In the 29er, Slovenia’s Peter Lin Janezic and Anze Podlogar topped the podium. Second and third place went to Spanish teams Carla and Marta Munté and Nil Mas and Fran Núñez, respectively.
The anticyclone affecting the South of Europe cancelled any chances of wind on the last two days of the GAES Christmas Race.
In 2015, the GAES Christmas Race reaches its 40th anniversary with the many activities planned to make it a very special edition.
