Training Course Delivered In Serbia

The Serbian Sailing Association, the Serbian Olympic Committee and ISAF delivered a Level 3 ISAF Technical Course for Coaches at the Serbian Sailing Centre in Golubac from 10-16 November.

A total of 31 participants took part in the Performance-related course which was delivered by ISAF Regional Development Co-ordinator for Euro-Asia, Emrah Surmen (TUR).

Miroslav Petkovi?, representative of the Serbian Sailing Association gave us an idea of what this course meant to his MNA, “I think the course fulfilled all my expectations, and in some areas it even surpassed them.

“Mr. Emrah Surmen, the ISAF Nominated Expert responsible for delivering the programme shared with us a great deal of his huge theoretical and practical knowledge. As an outstanding lecturer, he managed to motivate the participants and lead them to accomplish a great deal of work during the planned six days of the event. The course has also served as a filter to identify the coach candidates who will benefit from further personal development. The Serbian Sailing Association plans to implement the knowledge acquired in this course to further the education of our coaches, using expertise acquired during this course as well as in other seminars, such as Optimist (IODA) training programmes and 470 class clinics.

“We hope to continue the training of our coaches by having one of them take part in the 2015 ISAF Training Scholarship. From this participation we expect them to increase coaching skills. Our starting point is good, with a large number of our coaches working enthusiastically as volunteers. Increased cooperation between the Serbian Sailing Association and other National Sailing Federations of neighbouring countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Italy, and Hungary by attendance on other clinics and seminars would be beneficial for all.

“One of our most immediate goals is to qualify coaches to function as professionals, so that they may find job opportunities locally, or that by working seasonally in other countries, they acquire more experience.”
