2014 OptiWorld Team Racing Title Goes To Thailand

After two intense days of team racing competition at the Optimist Worlds in Buenos Aires, Argentina it was the Thai team who prevailed over Singapore in the final.

Thirty eight countries competed in the two day team racing championship. Singapore and Thailand emerged from the pack to advance to the final. Whilst Singapore were the favourites to take the title again it was the Thai team who were dominant.

In a best of three series the Thai team won two races in a row to triumph to take the title for the first time, three years on from when they picked up their first individual gold medal. Singapore had to settle for silver whilst Spain completed the podium.

The winning Thia team arrived back ashore to cheers, horns and the Thai national anthem which was very emotional for the team who have travelled a considerable distance to compete in Argentina. One of the team memebers expressed his happinnes to be in Argentina: “We are very happy to stay here and we feel really welcome although we are far from home.” Their representative Nima Chandler told us that they were not going to come to the worlds because they didn’t have money to afford the airplane ticket, but one month before coming a sponsor supported them to participate on the OptiWorlds. She also added they got used to the food very quickly, they brought a bag full of Thai food that they’ve not touched yet.
