The 2014 edition of Semana de Buenos Aires came to an end with the last races of the event in the Río de la Plata. After five days of intense racing, the winners of the 17 national and international classes that participated in the championship received their awards.
The championship was held at the Yacht Club Argentino and had 635 registered boats in 17 national and international classes. Sailors from Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, United States, France, Guatemala, Mexico, Monaco, Paraguay and Uruguay raced to prove their skills in the water of the Río de la Plata.
The last day of the event was difficult, there was a very soft NE wind that moved to the NW with a speed of 5 knots -sometimes decreasing to 2 knots-. “During these five days we were able to celebrate a good championship, with races in which there were changing soft winds. Some classes were able to complete the schedule, others have one or two races left to complete it, but the championship was ok and the organization worked fine, even with this amount of boats”, explained Teodoro Kundig, Principal Race Officer.
The level of competition was very high, especially in Laser Standard and Laser Radial, which used the event as a selection process for the Pan American Games that will be held next year in Toronto, Canada. Also the J/24 International Class showed an incredible level, as the sailors fought for their country selection process for the same event. In addition, the Optimist sailors were getting ready for their World Championship that will be held at the end of the month in Buenos Aires.
This edition is very positive, “It was a great championship and luckily the conditions improved the last weekend, despite the wind not being as strong as we expected, the races were completed. We had a great number of competitors and an incredible competition in the last days”, expressed Gustavo Sciacca, Chairman of the event, who added, “We organized a good championship and we are happy, over our expectations”.
