RS:X Racers Sum Things Up In A Few Words

Whilst waiting onshore for the second day of racing the RS:X leaders gave the RS:X class a general feeling of the first day of racing at the Santander 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

When asked to describe the day in five words they said:

“Nice day, good RC decisions,”
for Ricardo Santos from Brazil (leader of the current ISAF World Rankings) who scored a bullet in a second race. It was the same opinion from Spaniard Ivan Pastor who scored 11 and 2.

It was, “Tricky, hard, fun, interesting and tiring,” for Tony Wilhelm from Germany (Top 10 in the ISAF Ranking) who scored 3 and 4.

Meanwhile for the experienced Polish sailor “Pont” Przemyslaw Miarczynski, “Hours of waiting, zero sailing satisfaction.” The Polish sailor scored a 2 and 7.

Compatriot Piotr Myszka aka “Myshek” summarised things exactly as it played out, “Only two races in five hours.” Myszka is tied in third after a 4-2 day.

Contrary to the guys, the RS:X Girls were quite happy with their racing as they explained.

Bryony Shaw from the Great Britain believes it was very tough and interesting day, with a good job from Race Committee. Bryony is in third position now with a bullet in the race number three. Her team mate Isobel Hamilton (sits on a seventh place at the moment), had a consistent, good racing and feels it was. Her day in a few words, “Fun, shifty, hard racing and exciting day.”

“Concentrated, simple, strong current, shifts and sunny,” was how underdog -Demita Vega de Lille from Mexico remembered her first racing day at the ISAF Sailing World Championships in Santander. Vega is in second place, having won the first race of the Championship.

“Sea weed, shifty, nice and light, motivated,” were Eugenie Ricard’s (FRA) words of the day. She won the second race in her fleet and is positioned fourth overall tied on score with third.

And for London 2012 bronze medallist Zofia Noceti-Klepacka (POL), “Current, shifty, happy, hun-gry and motivated to attack.” Klepacka is fifth overall ahead of the Women’s RS:X racing.
