Tarnowski And Cohen Strike RS:X Youth Gold

Poland’s Pavel Tarnowski and Israel’s Naomi Cohen took the honours at the RS:X Youth World Championship at Penghu Island, Chinese Taipei.

ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year nominee Saskia Sills (GBR) went into the Medal Race with a narrow four point lead meaning she had to finish in the top three to secure yet another championship title in 2012. Considering her form all week and her coolness under pressure, expectations were high, however a fourth place enabled Cohen to sneak through and take the bullet to snatch gold from Sills’ grasp.

Sills was all smiles at the end having secured silver and will be buoyed by taking a comprehensive victory in the under 17 division.

All Tarnowski had to do throughout the Medal Race was stay out of trouble and finish the race. And he did exactly that to take the gold medal. The biggest fight on the battlefield was between Kieran Martin (GBR) and Martin Olmeta (FRA).

Martin went out to take the gun whilst Olmeta crumbled under the pressure, finishing ninth to drop to third place, taking home bronze.
