Kieler-Woche hosted two exciting Kiteboarding Medal Races in Kiel, Germany with Florian Gruber (GER) taking the gold medal with two race wins.
Using the same race management procedures as Olympic class racing on a windward leeward race course with winds ranging between 7-10 knots the competitors ranged in age from late teens to mid-50s with one female amongst the fleet.
In both races 19-year-old Gruber took the honours which ultimately sealed the deal. Darian Rubbel (GER) came through in second in Race 1 whilst 52-year-old Roy Rodwald (GER) finished second in Race 2 thus claiming silver to leave Rubbel in third overall.
Kiteboarding will formally be on the ISAF Sailing World Cup series from 2012-13 onwards and will make its debut in Melbourne this December.
