Giovanni Coccoluto (ITA) has won the MacLaren Laser Standard under 21 World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Coccoluto who has twice won an ISAF Youth Worlds bronze medal in the Laser Radial, posted two firsts and two seconds on his scoreboard to take the gold medal from Stig Steinfurth (DEN) by three points.
In the last day of this championship, the sailors completed only one race, the sixth race of the series in seven knots of wind from the south. The Race Committee started another race but it was abandoned in the third leg because the wind decreased to less than four kts.
Low wind was one of the characteristics of this event. In fact, there were two races programmed for each day and they could just complete six races in total. However, it was a nice championship and the competitors showed a lot of enthusiasm though the bad conditions.
29 sailors from 19 different countries competed: Argentina, Austria, Australia, Canada, Curaçao, Chile, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Japan, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovene, Ukraine, Uruguay and United States.
