EUROSAF Match Racing, European Open Youth Championship Begins

On Thursday evening, at the Society Canottieri, Marsala, Sicily, the opening ceremony of the inaugural EUROSAF Match Racing, European Open Youth Championship took place.

Teams from eleven countries took part in the ceremony, with the skippers from each country introducing their crew members. Four sailors from each country, all under the age of 22, were competing to represent their countries in this the first ever Youth Match Racing Championship of Europe.

The President of EUROSAF, Marco Predieri, was present to welcome all the competitors, along with John Friend, the Secretary General, who thanked the Society Canottieri, Marsala for hosting the championship and introduced the skippers to an audience of interested people from the local area, including the local Marsala Basket Ball Team, who were celebrating the opening of their new season.

The competing teams come from: Italy, Denmark, Great Britain, Sweden, Russia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Austria, France and the United States of America. Racing starts on Friday 23 September of concludes with Grand and Petit Finals on Sunday 25 September.
