Battle Regatta In Beautiful Belize

Sunshine, sea breezes, turquoise sea, great racing, the St George’s Caye – Battle Regatta in Belize was certainly the place to be on 12 September.

Despite the late arrival of breeze, crews from the Belize Sailing Association, Consejo Sailing Club, San Pedro Sailing Club, the Sea Scouts and communities of Belize City, Belmopan, Caye Caulker, Gales Point and Honey Camp were treated to a great day of close racing action. 

The regatta, part of the September celebrations was organized by the Belize Sailing Association (BzSA) and was the first of a series of planned activity to rejuvenate sailing and other forms of recreational water activity.

It was an exciting family event at the historic original Capital of Belize held on the nearest Sunday commemorating the decisive Battle in 1798.

Racing was in held in various classes ranging from 23’ traditional smack to Pico dinghies all sailed in the pristine sheltered waters near the shore to the delight of the spectators.

The Belize Sailing Association is currently working with the International Sailing Federation to beome a member national authority to further promote and develop sailing in the Country
