Thailand Windsurfers Set Sights On Gold

Siripon Kaewduang-ngam (THA) already has an advantage in her bid to win a windsurfing gold medal at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

The 16-year-old won Techno 293 gold at the Asian Youth Games over the course that will be used for the sailing events in Singapore. 

Siripon Kaewduang-ngam took up the sport at age 13 when her school in Pattaya joined a course held by Sailing Thailand.

Her local club is the Windsurfing Association of Thailand in Pattaya, and she is coached by Prapart Sang-ngern (THA).

Kaewduang-ngam says she likes windsurfing because of the high speeds and she would love to win gold at an Olympic Games.

Thailand’s boys windsurfing competitor, Supakorn Pongwichean started his sailing career on an optimistic note.

Supakon Pongwichean (THA) learned to sail at the age of eight, when his father taught him to sail an Optimist class dinghy.

The 15-year-old finished second at the 2009 Junior Laser World Championships in Thailand.

He is a member of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand near his home in Sattahip, Chonburi Province.

When not sailing, he plays soccer and table tennis.

Pongwichean wears a miniature Buddha figure on a necklace for good luck.
