On Sunday the first race of the Gaastra Dragon Worlds took place in Medemblik, with a nice 8-14 knots breeze and 68 Dragons on the starting line.
The conditions were difficult because of the shifty winds, but this resulted in an exciting fast and tight race. Bram de Wilde (NED), Lars Hendiksen (UKR) and Poul Ricard Hoj Jensen (GBR) were fighting at the front of the fleet for the victory in this first race.
Hendriksen ended up as the strongest and most consistent sailor and won the race. “I am so happy to win the first race of this prestigious event,” he said. “It was difficult racing, but we were in good shape and were able to beat Bram de Wilde and Poul Ricard Hoj Jensen”.
On Monday, two races are planned to be sailed.
