Hungarian Sailors Dominate At Flying Dutchman Worlds

Multiple World Champions Szabolcs MAJTHENYI and Andras DOMOKOS of Hungary dominated the third day of racing at the 2008 Flying Dutchman Worlds in Napier, extending their overall lead with two race wins.

Both races five and six of the series were completed in 5 to 7 knots of fluctuating north easterly breeze.

In race five, Szabolcs MAJTHENYI and András DOMOKOS (HUN) led from start to finish winning by 40 seconds from Ian MCCROSSIN and James COOK (AUS) closely followed by Kiwi’s Andrew MCKEE and Matt BISMARK (NZL).

The Hungarians sailors really stamped their authority on the regatta in race six, increasing their lead at each mark by over 30 seconds to take the bullet by 3 minutes and 38 seconds. The German pair of Kilian KONIG and Johannes BRACK (GER) had a well-deserved second place finish with Gines REMERO and Alvaro MORENO (ESP) taking third after the skipper had taken an unexpected dunking at the start of the previous race.

In the overall standings, the Hungarians extend their lead to six points over Aussies MCCROSSIN and COOK, who are six points ahead of compatriots Norman RYDGE and Richard SCARR (AUS). The leading Kiwis are MCKEE and BISMARK, tied on equal points with Paul SCOFFIN and Pavel RUZICKA (NZL) in fourth and fifth.

Friday is a lay day with racing resuming on Saturday with a further two races. The World Championship will conclude Sunday with one final race scheduled.
