Full Speed Ahead In Rochester

It was full speed ahead on day two of the IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championships in Rochester, USA, with three races completed across all three fleets.

After light winds curtailed racing on day one, the 163 competitors in Rochester completed the full schedule of racing on Tuesday.

It was another great day for Damien SEGUIN (FRA) in the 2.4 Metre fleet. The 2004 Paralympic gold medallist added 2,1,2 scores to his bullet on Monday to move into a ten-point overall lead as no one else was able to match the Frenchman’s consistency. Bruce MILLER (CAN) came closest and moves up to second overall with 1,3,9 scores for the day. After going OCS in Monday’s race, defending champion Heiko KRÖGER (GER) had another high score with a 17 in race 4 and lies 16th overall.

The SKUD18 fleet completed their opening three races of the series with American duo Karen MITCHELL and JP CREIGNOU taking the early lead. The pair posted 1,3,3 scores in the 18-strong fleet to lead fellow Americans Scott WITMAN and Julia DORSETT by three points. John MCROBERTS and Stacie LOUTTIT (CAN) and Carl-Gustaf FRESK and Annika LINDGREN (SWE) lie just one point further back.

In the Sonar fleet it was a fantastic day for John ROBERTSON, Hannah STODEL and Stephen THOMAS (GBR). The British trio are going for their third consecutive World title and 7,2,1 scores move them into a 11-point overall lead. Overnight leaders Shimon BEN YAKOV, Moshe ZEHAVI and Yossi BARDA (ISR) fall back to second, just ahead of the American team of Paul CALLAHAN, Tom BROWN and Roger CLEWORTH (USA).
